Dol Purnima or Dol Yatra is a biggest religious festival in Bengal and Odisha. People belonging to mentioned state celebrate Dol Purnima in honour of Lord Krishna. Dol Yatra is the last festival of Bengali year and celebrated from the ancient times. On this day, some people worship Radha and Krishna and after that people play with colours.

In Bengal, colour powder is called “Phag” which is also shotular used in kathiyawad ( a part of gujarat) Phag is also known as Phagan which is Phagun month and as we all know, we celebrates holi on phagun poonam.
Besides having a detailed description in the Vedas and Puranas such as Narad Purana and Bhavishya Purana, the festival of dol yatra finds a mention in Jaimini Mimansa. A stone incription belonging to 300 BC found at Ramgarh in the province of Vindhya has mention of dol yatrakotsav on it.
The festival of dol yatra also finds a reference in the sculptures on walls of old temples. A 16th century panel sculpted in a temple at Hampi, capital of Vijayanagar, shows a joyous scene of dol yatra.
